From the Head teacher……..children drawing of entrance

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to the website of Ysgol yr Esgob. It is a privilege to be the head teacher of such a vibrant learning community and I am very proud of what the school has achieved, and also thrilled to be at the forefront of what it continues to strive for.

At Ysgol yr Esgob, we pride ourselves on the secure and caring environment we give the children in our care, alongside a curriculum of quality, richness and variety. We believe in first hand practical experiences and hope to provide our children with memories that they will carry with them on their journey through life. The skills we teach help all individuals grow into independent, responsible and contributing adults.

With 71 children on role, we are a relatively small school and given that this is my second headship in this type of environment, I know there are many advantages to educating in this manner.  I believe a small school can provide so much in terms of personal and social development. Classes often study together; older children have a younger partner who they work with on occasions or who they go to at playtime if they feel they need to, and everyone supports each other in what I often describe as our “Church School Family”. Our older children leave with knowledge of how to be supportive, kind and caring, and how important it is to give to their community. Excellent relationships exist between staff and children and our nurturing environment creates a vibrant, happy and inclusive atmosphere that many visitors comment upon.

When visiting our school, many people ask about what it is like teaching mixed age classes. The art to this is making sure that different levels of work are set so that there is the correct amount of challenge and support. In doing so we consider the stage children are at rather than their age; older children often support younger ones in their learning and younger children learn a great deal from watching their peers. We are also lucky to have classroom assistants in every class who work alongside our highly skilled teachers.

Close co-operation between home and school is of the utmost importance in achieving the best for all our children.  Many opportunities will be available for you to share in your child’s learning and my staff and I will always be at hand to talk to you about any aspect of your child’s education.

If you wish to visit or want any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Appointments can be made via Mrs. Tandy, our secretary or by contacting myself at the school. It would be a pleasure to show you around.

Yours sincerely,Mrs. Clisham
